Frequently Asked Questions

  • A health coach helps others to make lasting changes in their daily habits, which result in long-term positive changes in their health. Healthcare providers may recommend their patients work with a health coach if they have a chronic medical condition like diabetes, high blood pressure, or obesity to help them successfully manage these conditions with diet, exercise, and other lifestyle changes. Individuals may choose to work with health coaches without a provider’s referral if they have a specific health goal they would like to achieve, like quitting smoking, incorporating more fruits and veggies into their diet, or getting more sleep at night. Health coaches help their clients figure out what barriers are getting in the way of accomplishing their health goals, brainstorm ways to overcome those obstacles, check in frequently to provide support and encouragement as they attempt to carry out the health goals they set for themself, and provide tips and education as needed to help their clients be successful. This is usually done through a series of conversations (either in-person or remotely) over an extended period of time, like 3 months, for example. Health coaches do NOT tell their clients what they should or shouldn’t do. Instead, they focus on working with clients on things they want to change and respect their wishes when there are other areas of their health that they are not yet ready to address.

  • Counselors or therapists often diagnose and treat mental health conditions like depression or anxiety among others. One way they may do this is by talking with you about your past experiences and how they affect your thoughts and feelings today. Health coaching typically focuses on where you are currently in your health journey and looks toward the future by imagining what life would be like if you were successful in achieving your health goals. Personal trainers often give you a tailored workout plan to follow and accompany you during your workouts to offer feedback and accountability during your exercises. Health coaches don’t typically create workout plans for their clients but instead help them come up with their own ideas and workout goals and then motivate them to stick to the goals they came up with for themselves. Clients can choose to work with a therapist and/or a personal trainer if desired while working with a health coach. They all work in different ways and complement each other, but none of them replace each other. Some people may be dealing with significant mental health concerns or a mental health crisis. In those situations, it’s best they work through these first with a mental health professional before signing up to work with a health coach to address their other health issues.

  • Absolutely not! I welcome any adult interested in working on reaching their health goals regardless of their personal beliefs. My intention as a Certified Christian Health Coach is not to preach to anyone or try to force my beliefs on others. I simply give clients the opportunity to incorporate Biblical principles into their health and wellness journey if that's something they are interested in. My goal is to make sure everyone who chooses to work with me feels welcomed and cared for, regardless of their background! That being said, many of the materials and handouts I use include Biblical teachings. You can simply ignore these sections if you do not wish to incorporate Christian principles into your health coaching sessions with me.

  • No! In fact, most clients will NOT live near me, and that’s okay because I do all of my health coaching sessions remotely via phone calls. I'm also considering investing in technology that would allow video visits with clients who want to work "face-to-face," but this is not something I offer yet. Stay tuned! Lastly, you technically don’t even need to live in the United States to work with me!

  • Right now, I am generally available to coach clients on Mondays between 9:00 AM and noon and Fridays between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM Central Time. I have very limited availability to see clients outside these hours, and on a case-by-case basis only. This is something that would need to be pre-approved first between a client and myself. Please reach out to Coach Tiffany via the Contact page if you are interested in pre-arranging coaching sessions outside these availability hours. I am in the process of working on trying to expand these hours of availability to be able to offer more flexible hours for coaching sessions to clients so stay tuned!

  • Health coaching is ideal for people who are currently ready and motivated to make changes in their lives but may have struggled in the past to make lasting health changes. Although it’s common to doubt ourselves and our ability to be successful at times, health coaching is NOT a good fit for people who are resistant to change or are not currently interested in making ANY changes at this time. A person who is not yet ready to make lifestyle changes may develop an interest and motivation in the future. When this occurs, I would glady welcome them to sign up for my coaching program! As of right now, I only serve clients who are age 18 or older and am focusing primarily on working with women.

  • I trained with Bess Blanco through the Christian Health Coach Academy and became a Certified Christian Health Coach in 2023. This is a robust 20-week program featuring weekly mentoring from other experienced health coaches along with a well-rounded curriculum that covers basic training in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, holistic health principles, client goal-setting, and Biblically-based health coaching techniques. I also have more than a decade of experience working in nursing and became a family nurse practitioner in 2020 after receiving my Master of Science in Nursing from Frontier Nursing University. I have experience working in family medicine, public health, geriatrics, obstetrics, maternal child health, long-term care, telehealth, and home health. Lastly, I had the opportunity to fine-tune many coaching and mentoring techniques during my time as a pregnancy and parenting coach for 4 years and as a nursing student mentor for 2 years.

  • For my 12-week coaching program, I give clients the option of paying the entire payment in one lump sum for a reduced price (the “Full” packages) or you can divide it into 3 monthly payments if that’s easier (the “Monthly” packages). I don't accept health insurance, and most insurance companies don't reimburse for health coaching services yet.

  • You may be able to use your HSA or FSA to pay for health coaching services. I would encourage you to contact the company that manages your HSA or FSA account to double-check. They may require a letter from your healthcare provider stating that health coaching services are “medically necessary” in order to use your HSA or FSA dollars to pay for health coaching services. I say it’s worth a shot to look into this further if this is something you're interested in!

  • Many weight loss programs focus on losing large amounts of weight as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this is just not sustainable and is often not realistic. Many people end up gaining the weight back after struggling to maintain the unrealistic expectations of the weight loss plan. My program focuses on making SMALL, sustainable, simple changes in your daily habits that, over time, add up to long-lasting BIG changes in your health. My goal is that after working with me, you will feel motivated and confident in continuing to make future changes in your health that help you to reach your full health potential. My objective is NOT to make clients dependent on me or require them to become dependent on my program for the rest of their lives in order to maintain the health changes they accomplish. My hope is that after working with me, you will have the skills in place to be your OWN health coach going forward! With that being said, I also welcome past clients if they do decide they want to work with me again with achieving new health goals in the future.

  • No. Although I am a licensed nurse practitioner, I want to make it very clear that I am NOT utilizing my skills as a nurse practitioner when operating in my role as a health coach. I specifically am NOT diagnosing or treating clients in this role and I will NOT be prescribing any medications, ordering any diagnostics, or recommending any specific dietary plans for clients to follow. If you feel like you could benefit from any of these services, I strongly encourage you to contact your OWN healthcare provider to inquire about any of the above interventions. I strive to promote an open and trusting relationship between a client and their own provider, and nothing that I say or recommend should replace what you have been told by your provider specifically.

  • There is no such thing as failure as long as you keep trying! In the process, you may learn a million ways that don’t work for YOU, but you can only truly fail if you give up on your health altogether! As long as you keep getting back up when you stumble and fall (which we all do sometimes!), I am confident that you WILL find a way to be successful in achieving lasting positive changes in your health. My job is not to judge or condemn you if you're struggling to stick to your health goals. The reality is we will ALL eventually hit a wall when trying to change any habit. It’s completely normal and even to be expected! And that’s where I come in as your health coach. I will simply work with you to brainstorm new ways of tackling any obstacles as they arise and provide encouragement so you can overcome any barriers and ultimately find success! But you have to commit to not giving up.

  • I offer clients a one-time free 30-minute no-obligation consultation call. This serves as an opportunity for potential clients to ask questions and get to know me better to decide if they feel like my program would be a good fit for them. If a client chooses to hire me as their health coach and aren't satisfied with a health coaching session, they can ask for a full refund for that session. This will only be provided if the client requests this refund within 1 week after the coaching session. Requests made after 1 week will not be eligible for a refund. If a client requests a refund for a coaching session, they can choose to cancel their contract for the remainder of the program if desired. If they do this, they will get refunded for the remaining coaching sessions they have not yet used. If a client requests a refund for a coaching session, the health coach also has the right to terminate the contract with the client. The remainder of the scheduled health coaching sessions will be canceled, and a full refund will be provided for any remaining unused coaching sessions. So, there really is no risk in joining my heath coaching program!

  • Yes! Everything discussed during our health coaching sessions will be kept strictly confidential except in cases where I am required by law to share something. These cases are rare and typically only occur if the safety of a client or someone else is potentially at stake. Any notes taken during our coaching sessions will be stored in a password-protected storage drive. However, I do not use encryption technology when it comes to email correspondence, so if you choose to communicate with me via email, I suggest you not share any private information in the emails unless you choose.
